Dry rot and wet rot are fungi which attack wood and can cause considerable damage to your property. The name 'dry rot' can actually be misleading as both types of fungi require damp conditions. It is usually this damp condition that leads to the formation of these fungi.
Dry rot is probably the worst kind of condition, as it can spread along masonry and through thick walls in it's search for timber. Often this affected timber is difficult to treat and complete removal is usually the only remedy. Wet rot however, requires a higher moisture content, and therefore cannot travel through masonry and is the easier to treat.
Treatment.
Complete removal of timber in some dry rot cases, incorporating a spray with a masonry biocide, or a spray application using a micro emulsion preservative fluid. These treatments carry a 30 year guarantee.
